KREATIV BLOGGER AWARD NOMINATION
1. Place the log on the blog.
2. Link to the person who nominated the blog for this award.
3. Name seven things about yourself that people might find interesting–or that they don’t know.
4. Nominate seven Kreativ Bloggers.
5. Post links to the seven blogs you nominate.
6. Leave a comment on each of the blogs letting them know they have been nominated.
1. I lived above the 72nd parallel in the Norwegian Arctic in a reindeer herding village for a while. With a whiny vegan guy. Don't ask.
2. I am particularly fond of monotremes, which are evolutionary cross-overs: the platypus and the echydna (otherwise known as the spiny anteater.)
3. Although most people think of me as a classical-early music/world music person, my favorite music documentary is about Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, called Running Down the Dream. Go get it now!!
4. Because of my brain injury, most of what I write one day is completely forgotten the next. Welcome to Groundhog Day!
5. My father, who had been a writer, was close friends with Saul Bellow and when my sister was a baby, she peed in his lap. She is a writer too and I suppose that act was her first attempt at literary schmoozing.
6. I visited Pope John Paul's summer home in 1990 and following a private concert, I refused to kneel and kiss his papal ring. Kind of a visceral reaction I guess. Long story involving guards, guns, interrogations and the like...
7. I played hockey as a kid and keep my hockey skates in the back of my car all winter. You never know when you might see a frozen pond...
Seven blogs I'd like to nominate for the Kreativ Blogger Award:

geninne : artists who blog
Geninne's blog: www.geninne.com
Geninne's shop: www.geninne.etsy.com
Why did you decide to start a blog?
In 2005, I discovered Illustration Friday, a weekly creative outlet/participatory art exhibit for art illustrators and artist from all over the world. I decided to participate in the weekly art challenge and needed a blog to post my entries.
How did you come up with the name of your blog?
In the beginning it was called Geninne's Illustration Blog because I was only using it to post my entries for Illustration Friday, but after a while I began expending my posts to include my adventures in crafting, sewing, etc...so I needed a new name and changed the illustration for art.
How has blogging affected your work as an artist/designer?
The most important thing is that it has made me more prolific with my work and motivates me to continue creating.
What are your favorite artist/designer blogs? Why?
There are so many arts and craft blogs that I love. For my daily birdy fix I visit Diana Sudyka's blog thetinyaviary.blogspot.com. I'm a BIG fan of Laura Normandin's work and visit her blog wrenhandmade.typepad.com for inspiration. I also admire Camilla Engman's work and her adorable dog Morran's adventures at camillaengman.blogspot.com. There is so much talent out there!
Do you have any advice for artists/designers who are starting a blog?
“Just do it” If you want to get your work know I would advise you to participate in any of the many creative outlets available on the internet. Blog about what you love, don’t try too hard, just blog about what your passion is.
What has been the most positive and inspirational aspect of having a blog for you?
The positive feedback I get from my readers is a daily source of encouragement.
What do you find the most difficult/most rewarding part of having a creative profession?
Seeing/reading how people enjoy my work and make it a part of their living environment puts a smile on my face.
Other than your blog, what has been the most effective way for you to promote your art/design?
I posted a new illustration every week at Illustration Friday for two years and I think that really helped expose my work in the creative community.
How do you maintain a healthy work/life balance?
The balance comes naturally since I’m a bit of a hermit and love to stay home with Manolo and the kids. I home school them so I get stay in most of the time, which means I’m close to my desk and water colors for when inspiration strikes. Albert Einstein once said “The monotony and solitude of a quite life stimulates the creative mind” I strive to keep it simple everyday.
What are your main goals for 2009?
My future plans with Manolo are to open a little shop with his furniture designs, my art and handmade crafts. It has been a dream of ours since we got married. We don’t have any specific plans yet but we are giving it a lot of thought.

MORE UPDATES AND INFO
A couple other little items: when you want to leave a comment after a posting, just click on the place that says 'comments' at the end of the posts for that time and follow the directions. I hide my comments, only because sometimes there are a lot of them and I just don't want to take up so much space. If you are having any trouble leaving comments, it might mean that you have to update your browser, so please try that before you write me an email, okay? Thanks! I welcome all comments, especially ones telling me how much they absolutely LOVE THIS BLOG. And, of course, comments about wonderful residencies you have applied for and gotten, or grants you applied for and got after you found out about them on my blog.
Coming soon: FAQs about residencies, so keep your eyes peeled. (I wonder where that creepy phrase came from?)
Cheers,
Mira
FELLOWSHIP AND RESIDENCY UPDATE
November 2, 2009: Fiction, Playwriting/Screenwriting and Photography
November 3, 2009: Painting, Music/Sound
November 4, 2009: Architecture/Environmental Structures, Choreography and Video
Also, another change...a reader recently brought to my attention that although I got an announcement from a grants site regarding the Robert MacNamara Foundation residency in Maine's supposed September deadline, they are not doing residencies at this time. That is all I know at the moment. (Thank you dear readers for your help!) Although I'd love to double check every single link or announcement I get or double check the places I research, I simply do not have time. I do the best I can, as most of you know, but once in a while the information I am given or that I find is erroneous. I do this stuff for free and it takes a lot of time and unfortunately, unless I clone myself, I can't do any better than this. I do apologize for any mistakes and if I can clone myself in the future, you'll be the first to know. Speaking of mistakes, it seems as if an alien has invaded blogspot. If you see some odd font glitches or other issues, I am sorry. I'm trying to find out what the problem is---whether it's blogspot or my server or what. Hopefully it will be cleared up soon!
Anyway....more things to come. Have a great end of the summer. Garden, paint, play music and get those applications out there. Remember that the fall is a huge time for deadlines, especially regional grants, i.e. state grants in the U.S. Talk to you later....best wishes, Mirabee
