(ARTISTS) Bumpkin Island Art Encampment: Request for Proposals: The Boston Harbor Island Alliance, the Berwick Research Institute, Mobius, and Studio Soto invite proposals for the Bumpkin Island Art Encampment, a five-day, public art experience in the Boston Harbor Islands national park area. Starting Thursday, July 29, 2010 and continuing through Monday, August 2, 2010, eight artist groups (one to five people per group) will take temporary ownership of eight plots of land on Bumpkin Island. As “homesteaders”, they will build some kind of home on the land, live on the land for five days, and “improve” the land via a site-specific, temporary performance or installation.

Artists will receive: A five-day “land grant” with full campsite access, ranger support and ferry transportation, a $100 stipend for basic expenses, and a supply of drinking water, production support and critical feedback from project curators. (ARTISTS) Visual Arts Research AND Study Grants: The Fundación Marcelino Botín awards for Visual Arts Grants for study, research and the undertaking of individual projects in the sphere of (non-theoretical) artistic work. Artists may be any nationality. The exhibition agenda of the Fundación Marcelino Botín will include an exhibition which premieres the works realized by the artists during the period covered by the grant. • Applicants for study grants must be between 23 and 40 years old.
• There is no age limit for the research grants.
• Artists may be any nationality.

• After being awarded, the grants shall be effective for the stipulated period and without interruption. Grants must be initiated before the end of 2010.

I wanted to tell Massachusetts artists about this event coming up on November 7th and 8th in Boston. I was supposed to be on one of the panels and couldn't make it but there are many other arts professionals participating who you really should hear. URGENT DEADLINES FOR FELLOWSHIPS, RESIDENCIES AND MORE!

(PRINTMAKERS) St. Michael's Printshop Residency in Newfoundland: Each year St. Michael's Printshop invites applications from international, national and provincial artists who wish to come and work at the Printshop for a one-month period. A total of six residencies are offered during the year. The one-month residency must be completed during the period of April 1st in the year in which it is awarded and March 31st of the following year. During the residency, the artist will be asked to give a workshop for the membership of the Printshop. Up to $1500 in funding for each artist plus 24-hour access to all facilities. (ALL) Radcliffe Fellowships: Fellowships for creative artists and scholars in the humanities. Stipends are funded up to $65,000 for one year with additional funds for project expenses. Some support for relocation expenses is provided where relevant. If so directed, Radcliffe will pay the stipend to the fellow's home institution. Fellows receive office or studio space and access to libraries and other resources of Harvard University during the fellowship year, which extends from early September 2010 through June 30, 2011. Visual artists and film, video, sound, and new media artists may apply to come for one semester only. The stipend is $32,500. Fellows are expected to be free of their regular commitments so they may devote themselves full time to the work outlined in their proposal. (WRITERS) Hodder Fellowship: The Lewis Center for the Arts at Princeton offers the Hodder Fellowship, a fellowship created for artists in the early stages of their careers. In keeping with the bequest of Mary MacKall Gwinn Hodder, it is awarded to individuals during that crucial period when they have demonstrated exceptional promise but have not yet received widespread recognition. Typically, Hodder Fellows are poets, playwrights, novelists, creative nonfiction writers and translators who have published one highly acclaimed book and are undertaking significant new work that might not be possible without the “studious leisure” afforded by this fellowship. Hodder Fellows spend an academic year at Princeton pursuing independent projects. Preference is given to individuals outside of academia, and candidates for the Ph.D. degree are not eligible. (FILMMAKERS) Emerging Documentary Filmmaker Grants: The Pacific Pioneer Fund gives grants to emerging documentary filmmakers or videographers who live and work in California, Oregon, and Washington. The term "emerging" is intended to denote a person committed to the craft of making documentaries, who has demonstrated that commitment by several years - but no more than ten - practical film or video experience. (MEDIA/FILM) Artist-in-Residence in Boston: The Artist in Residency at HOME, Inc. offers a three month to six month residency which may be renewable for an additional six months upon mutual agreement. The Residency provides free access to HOME's video production facilities at the HOME studios in Jamaica Plain (Boston, MA). Facilities include access to 4 Apple Studio Suite equipped editing systems, with Live Type, Motion, Final Cut Pro and other software. Additional equipment includes Betacam SP editing deck, and DVCAM camcorders, a camera boom, wireless microphones, fluid head tripods, lights etc. They also can provide a small office space. The Artist-in-Residence Program (AIR) at Fruitlands Museum in Harvard, Massacusetts seeks contemporary artists whose work compliments the collections and landscape. Join ArtCorps and volunteer your creative talents to strengthen sustainable development in Central America in 2010. Through community arts projects, artists educate and inspire people to participate actively in improving the environmental, health, and social conditions in their communities. Every ArtCorps artist works directly with a local non-governmental organization that is an expert in its field. Artists strengthen dialogue between community members and the organization, improve community education and empower local leadership.

Artists will:
* Work as a volunteer and live in his or her host community from January 2010 through December 2010. Artists have the option to extend their stay for a second year if agreed upon by the host organization.

The Center for Independent Documentaries (CID) is seeking proposals on an ongoing basis from independent producers for the production of documentaries on contemporary issues. Projects with which CID collaborates are eligible to receive a variety of services and resources. The fee charged to each projects varies. ARTADIA GRANTS FOR VISUAL ARTISTS

Okay, this grant below is great—but only available in certain U.S. cities—Participating cities with active awards programs are currently: Chicago, Atlanta, Boston, San Francisco Bay Area, and Houston. Right now, they are seeking applicants from BOSTON. At the bottom of this post you can find the grant application cycle for the other participating cities.

About the Grant
ARTADIA is an arts non-profit based in New York that gives awards to visual artists in select communities in the US and provides the awardees with a life time of support with introductions, professional advice, studio visits, exhibitions, publications, and in many more ways. The applications are currently open to all visual artists in the metro Boston community through June 15, 2009; they are online, and free of charge. The Artadia Award is unique, providing substantial financial support, critical validation and broader public exposure for artists across the country:
* Cash awards are granted in participating cities on a rotating basis.
* Awards ranging from $15,000 to $3,000 are unrestricted, and can be used however the artist sees fit.
* Applications are open to all visual artists who reside in Artadia's participating cities.
* A two-tiered selection process combines local expertise with outside perspectives from leading national and international curators and artists.
* Visiting panelists engage with local artists in their studios, gaining a broader context for their work and facilitating long-lasting relationships.
* A preliminary panel of prominent national and local curators and artists evaluates all the submissions and selects 15 finalists.
* A second panel of curators and artists travels to the participating city and conducts studio visits with each of the finalists. This panel selects the artists who receive Artadia Awards. However used, the Artadia Award is the monetary component of a wider culture of support.
Eligibility
To be eligible, you must: Live and work in designated partner cities and have resided in the program city for at least one year prior to the application deadline. You also are not currently enrolled in an art-related college or university degree program, nor planning to attend an art-related college or university degree program in the coming year. A couple more restrictions apply. Check website for details. Artadia's awards are unrestricted. Artists may use the grant however they please. Selections are based upon the merit of past work. Visual artists at all stages of their careers may apply. Artists who wish to collaborate with other artists are eligible too, just check the website for details.
