(CA ARTISTS) The Center for Cultural Innovation (CCI) Grants Program—Provides grants up to $15,000 to individual artists in California for the acquisition of arts equipment and materials or towards presentation and marketing of their creative work. The Investing in Artists grants program is designed to enhance the working lives and creative environment for California artists by funding tools and market strategies that will allow them to create their best work more consistently, and distribute that work more broadly to new audiences.

Investing in Artists provides grants in two funding categories:

1) Grants for Artistic Equipment and Tools, and 2) Grants for Presenting and Marketing Work. Through a competitive application process conducted over three initial rounds of funding, a combination of planning grants up to $5,000 each, and implementation grants up to $15,000 each, have been awarded to California artists over a 14-month period. (ARTISTS & PERFORMERS) Looking for Artists/Performers to live and work in Central America—Immediate Opportunity to Use Your Talents for Social Change: ArtCorps seeks performing or visual artist to work with our newest partner organization, CARE, in Honduras in 2011. ArtCorps is a unique opportunity for artists to receive training in Art for Social Action, gain valuable experience in sustainable development and contribute to grassroots change in Central America.

ArtCorps Artists receive room and board, medical insurance, a small personal stipend and a budget for project materials. They also receive technical assistance from ArtCorps staff in the region. (ALL) Bogliasco Fellowships—Fellowships at the Bogliasco Study Center in Luguria, Italy are awarded, without regard to nationality, to qualified persons doing advanced creative work or scholarly research in the following disciplines: archaeology, architecture, classics, dance, film or video, history, landscape architecture, literature, music, philosophy, theatre, visual arts in the arts.

Applicants for Fellowships are expected to demonstrate significant achievement in their disciplines, commensurate with their age and experience. In addition, they must submit descriptions of the projects that they intend to pursue in Bogliasco. An approved project is presumed to lead to the completion of an artistic, literary, or scholarly work, followed by publication, performance, exhibition, or other public presentation.

Approximately 50 Bogliasco Fellowships are awarded each year. They are scheduled during the two semesters of the traditional academic year. Fellowships usually have a duration of one month (30-31 days). In some circumstances, half-semester residencies (47 days) may be awarded with special approval of the Bogliasco Foundation Board of Trustees. April 15th is next deadline. New Residencies & Grants and a My Words Project Update

Hey everyone, thanks so much for all your letters of support and all your donations to the My Words Are My Shelter project. It apparently struck a deep chord in many people and the response has been amazing. The update is this: In the very first day, I got $507! That is enough to send a box of journals, pens and pencils to every single woman at my mom’s shelter. I haven’t even checked my P.O. box for checks yet and today, some other donations came in. What I decided to do with the extra money, is to use the money for a ticket to go to Cleveland to the shelter (no need for housing as I have friends there) and do a poetry workshop with the women there this coming February. Any left-over money from this My Words project after that will be donated to the shelter in either check form or in the form of more journals or books (they really need books too!). So that’s the update. I’ll run this project until December 20th for now. I think that it will become an on-going project for the future and I hope that it inspires other such actions across the globe. Actually, it already has---I have heard from several people around the world who said they were going to do the same thing. Very cool! And all because of YOU!

(CA ARTISTS) The Creative Work Fund – Grants of $10,000-$40,000 for projects by San Francisco Bay Area artists and organizations. Projects must feature one or more artists collaborating with a nonprofit organization to create new works. Artists may be working in media (film, video, video or sound installations, radio, or computer-based media) or traditional arts (including performance). (WRITERS & ARTISTS) Provincetown Residencies—The Provincetown Community Compact is accepting applications for residencies in two dune shacks in the Cape Cod National Seashore (Provincetown, MA USA). These primitive dwellings in a magnificent setting provide one to three week stays, one with a $500 fellowship for a visual artist, and two funded writers' weeks. (MN or NY ARTISTS) The 2011 Jerome Foundation Travel and Study Grant Program—will award grants to emerging creative artists (composers, sound artists, playwrights, creators of performance art and experimental theater, and visual artists). Minnesota-based executive and program administrators working for nonprofit organizations in music, theater, and visual arts are also eligible to apply. The deadline for applications in Music, Theater, and Visual Arts is February 28, 2011.

The Travel and Study Grant Program places emphasis on individual exploration and growth. The program supports such activities as research leading to the creation of new work, the development of collaborations, participation in specific training programs, time for reflection and individualized study, investigating artistic work outside of Minnesota or New York City, and dialogue on aesthetic issues.

(MUSICIANS & COMPOSERS) Music Omni Residency: Each August, approximately a dozen musicians--composers and performers from around the globe--gather for two and a half weeks to share in a unique collaborative music making residency program. Music Omi encourages its residents to participate as members of an international musical community; sharing ideas, performing each others works and writing music for one another while exploring their own musical vision. Music Omi invites applicants from all musical disciplines who wish to broaden their artistic horizons and engage actively with a diversity of other musicians.

Unlike most artists residency programs, where artists come to work in isolation, Music Omi actively encourages the exchange of ideas and the sharing of cultures through active collaboration. A singular feature of the Music Omi experience is the presentation of two public concerts at the conclusion of the program (one on the Art Omi campus itself near the conclusion of the residency, and the other at a New York City venue the day following the conclusion of the residency).

Applicants may be primarily composers, improvisers or performers, but have some proficiency in each of these areas. Music Omi welcomes academically trained musicians, musicians "of the street," players of traditional instruments, concert instruments, vocalists, and sound artists of all kinds. "Pop," "jazz," "classical," "folk," "experimental," and other such labels have no bearing on the selection process, only musical excellence and a wish to collaborate. It is recommended that applicants come not with specific projects in mind, but rather with a willingness to share their skills and sensibilities, and an openness to working together with others on jointly conceived musical projects.

All awarded fellows commit to remaining for the entire residency and to participating in the concluding concerts. Everyone accepted to Music Omi receives full room and board during his or her stay (note that Art Omi is unable to provide travel funds).

URGENT DEADLINES FOR FELLOWSHIPS, RESIDENCIES AND MORE!

(PRINTMAKERS) St. Michael's Printshop Residency in Newfoundland: Each year St. Michael's Printshop invites applications from international, national and provincial artists who wish to come and work at the Printshop for a one-month period. A total of six residencies are offered during the year. The one-month residency must be completed during the period of April 1st in the year in which it is awarded and March 31st of the following year. During the residency, the artist will be asked to give a workshop for the membership of the Printshop. Up to $1500 in funding for each artist plus 24-hour access to all facilities. (ALL) Radcliffe Fellowships: Fellowships for creative artists and scholars in the humanities. Stipends are funded up to $65,000 for one year with additional funds for project expenses. Some support for relocation expenses is provided where relevant. If so directed, Radcliffe will pay the stipend to the fellow's home institution. Fellows receive office or studio space and access to libraries and other resources of Harvard University during the fellowship year, which extends from early September 2010 through June 30, 2011. Visual artists and film, video, sound, and new media artists may apply to come for one semester only. The stipend is $32,500. Fellows are expected to be free of their regular commitments so they may devote themselves full time to the work outlined in their proposal. Since this is a residential fellowship, fellows are expected to reside in the Boston area during that period and to have their primary office at the Institute so that they can participate fully in the life of the community. (WRITERS) Amsterdam Writer-in-Residence Program: Amsterdam Writer-in-Residence Program is from three to five months in the heart of the old city. Guest writers use their time in Amsterdam for their own work and research, but they will also be involved in the city's literary and cultural life. It has been decided to give preference to those authors whose works have been translated into Dutch or will be shortly, and authors who work in a wide range of literary genres. (WRITERS) Hodder Fellowship: The Lewis Center for the Arts at Princeton offers the Hodder Fellowship, a fellowship created for artists in the early stages of their careers. In keeping with the bequest of Mary MacKall Gwinn Hodder, it is awarded to individuals during that crucial period when they have demonstrated exceptional promise but have not yet received widespread recognition. Typically, Hodder Fellows are poets, playwrights, novelists, creative nonfiction writers and translators who have published one highly acclaimed book and are undertaking significant new work that might not be possible without the “studious leisure” afforded by this fellowship. Hodder Fellows spend an academic year at Princeton pursuing independent projects. Preference is given to individuals outside of academia, and candidates for the Ph.D. degree are not eligible. (FILMMAKERS) Emerging Documentary Filmmaker Grants: The Pacific Pioneer Fund gives grants to emerging documentary filmmakers or videographers who live and work in California, Oregon, and Washington. The term "emerging" is intended to denote a person committed to the craft of making documentaries, who has demonstrated that commitment by several years - but no more than ten - practical film or video experience. (MEDIA/FILM) Artist-in-Residence in Boston: The Artist in Residency at HOME, Inc. offers a three month to six month residency which may be renewable for an additional six months upon mutual agreement. The Residency provides free access to HOME's video production facilities at the HOME studios in Jamaica Plain (Boston, MA). Facilities include access to 4 Apple Studio Suite equipped editing systems, with Live Type, Motion, Final Cut Pro and other software. Additional equipment includes Betacam SP editing deck, and DVCAM camcorders, a camera boom, wireless microphones, fluid head tripods, lights etc. They also can provide a small office space. At this point there is no stipend included with the residency. HOME is particularly interested in video artists who are working on projects that have some social theme or value. The Liaison of Independent Filmmakers of Toronto is seeking proposals from artists and writers for the third series of Poetry Projections, provisionally titled Poetry Projections III: On Correspondence. Revisiting the film poem as an avenue for creative collaborations, LIFT is seeking proposals for ten commissioned films to be screened in Fall of 2010. Each new work will provide a stimulating perspective on the intersection of film and poetry "in correspondence." Selected participants will receive $200, temporary LIFT Membership, up to $1,000 in production equipment/facilities and post-production resources, up to $1,000 in film, materials and services, and more. (SCHOLARS) The Society for the Humanities Fellowships

The Society for the Humanities calls for scholarly reflections on global aesthetics. They are seeking interdisciplinary projects on aesthetics that reflect on the history and practice of artistic form in the context of historical cross-cultural exchange, economic and cultural flows, and contemporary global transformation. Scholars are encouraged to investigate transformations of global aesthetics and interdisciplinary practices across geographies, historical periods, disciplinary boundaries, and social context. The Society for the Humanities welcomes applications from scholars and practitioners who are interested in investigating this topic from the broadest variety of international and disciplinary perspectives. Fellows receive $45,000 for one year. Fellows from outside the U.S. receive an extra $2,000 to cover travel expenses.



Applicants must have received the Ph.D. degree before January 1, 2009. The Society for the Humanities will not consider applications from scholars who received the Ph.D. after this date. (ARTISTS) Artadia Awards for San Francisco Artists

Artadia: The Fund for Art and Dialogue is now accepting applications from visual artists in the San Francisco Bay area. Artists and collaboratives working in all media and at any point in their career are encouraged to apply. Artists receive between $3000 and $15,000 plus professional and mentoring assistance. (FILMMAKERS) Cinereach Grants Cinereach funds artful narrative and documentary films that depict underrepresented perspectives, cross international boundaries and start meaningful conversations. Film projects that are consistent with Cinereach’s ethos favor good storytelling over didacticism, complexity over traditional duality. Cinereach-supported films demonstrate creativity, visual artistry and take a character-based approach. In the past, Cinereach has awarded grants from $5,000 to $50,000 per project. (POETS) Spoken Word Grants

VERVE Grants of up to $3,000 are awarded to emerging Minnesota spoken word poets. An emerging artist is an artist whose work demonstrates a sustained level of accomplishment and commitment, but who has not yet received recognition/acknowledgement as an established creator from fellow artists and/or other arts professionals. (WRITERS/FILMMAKERS) Soros Justice Media Fellowships

These fellowships support individuals with innovative projects that address criminal justice-related issues, particularly in relation to communities of color, immigrants, LGBT communities and more. Fellowships are for one years and support print and radio journalism, film and video post-production and dissemination and book projects. Award includes a stipend and project of up to $45,000 plus $2500 for health insurance. Experienced artists/filmmakers only. Deadline is October 14, 2009. Please see website for more details.

VISUAL ARTISTS' GRANT: Visions from the New California recognizes outstanding, under-recognized, visual artists from California. Six artists are selected each year, and are awarded a one-month residency at one of six California artists’ residency programs, and a $4,000 stipend. Deadline: June 1, 2009. Visions from the New California aims to recognize artists who represent the racial/ethnic demographic mix of California, who live throughout the state (particularly beyond the San Francisco and Los Angeles metropolitan areas), and who work in a range of visual art media.
Eligibility:

2. Current students are not eligible.
3. Individuals who have completed a residency at any of the participating Visions from the New California sites, and artists who have been awarded more than one previous residency elsewhere, are not eligible.
