Time travel back to the 60s: Matti Suuronen's UFO house landed in Rotterdam

The original prototype of the Futuro house, designed by Finnish architect Matti Suuronen, has been purchased byMuseum Boijmans van Beuningen in Rotterdam and is on display till beginning of October. Lying on a bed-seat inside this amazing flying saucer structure is an experience one should not miss!

In 1965 Matti Suuronen was asked to design a mobile holiday home that could be erected in poorly accessible skiing areas. De Futuro was revolutionary for its time: fully demountable, made from lightweight polyester and suitable for serial production. Although production of the mobile home was halted prematurely, in part due to the oil crisis of 1973, there are dozens of Futuros spread across the world. Most are in private collections, but the original prototype can be seen at Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen. The prefabricated interior comprises a living room, two bedrooms, a kitchen and bathroom.
