VISUAL ARTISTS & SCHOLARS: Künstlerhaus Schloß Balmoral Artists' Residencies with Scholarships
Call for applications for the Balmoral Scholarships and the Foreign and Exchange Scholarships for 2010. Application period for 2010 scholarships: May 15 to July 18, 2009 (date of postmark) Six residence scholarships will be awarded to international visual artists. The scholarship lasts 6 months. All of them begin in April 2010 and are endowed with 1,200 euros a month and include free accommodation at the Künstlerhaus Schloß Balmoral. The artists’ house is located in Bad Ems, Germany, a historical spa town with a population of 10,000. It lies close to the river Lahn and is about 18 km from Koblenz. The A3 motorway can be used to reach Cologne and Frankfurt quickly. Also offered are several other kinds of scholarships, including a Curator Residency and Scholarship to a young scholar in the humanities (preferably art theory) for a curatorial project to be developed by the scholarship holder and the Künstlerhaus Schloß Balmoral. The scholarship lasts 6 months and begins in April 2010. It is endowed with 1,200 euros a month and includes free accommodation at the Künstlerhaus Schloß Balmoral. * Duration: maximum period of three months, Disciplines: Architecture, Curating/Research, Drawing & Painting, Literature, Media Art, Music, Photography Description: In order to promote international exchange, the federal state of Lower Austria has initiated an artist-in residence program, for which it has set up five studio apartments and a large common room on the top floor of the former carpet factory within the Art Mile in Krems (Kunstmeile Krems). The aim of the artist-in-residence program is to establish partnerships with international institutions that award artist scholarships and provide studios to visiting artists, in order to give artists from Lower Austria opportunities for living and working abroad. The artists of the exchange partners will be offered by AIR Krems, studio and living quarters free of charge, grant money, exhibition possibilities and support service.
