Time travel back to the 60s: Matti Suuronen's UFO house landed in Rotterdam

see our photos from Futuro - Constructing Utopia

The original prototype of the Futuro house, designed by Finnish architect Matti Suuronen, has been purchased byMuseum Boijmans van Beuningen in Rotterdam and is on display till beginning of October. Lying on a bed-seat inside this amazing flying saucer structure is an experience one should not miss!

In 1965 Matti Suuronen was asked to design a mobile holiday home that could be erected in poorly accessible skiing areas. De Futuro was revolutionary for its time: fully demountable, made from lightweight polyester and suitable for serial production. Although production of the mobile home was halted prematurely, in part due to the oil crisis of 1973, there are dozens of Futuros spread across the world. Most are in private collections, but the original prototype can be seen at Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen. The prefabricated interior comprises a living room, two bedrooms, a kitchen and bathroom.

In the adjoining room you can also see several installations from Atelier Van Lieshout, including a portable room with bed, shower & toilet - in case u'd like to spend the night.

Shocking discovery: Game Arthritis / IOCOSE & Prof. Matteo Bittanti present their scientific findings @ the Biennale

Addicted to Nintendo? PlayStation lover? Then watch these images, from the systemic study of video games induced diseases, and fear the future!

This ongoing collaborative project by IOCOSE and Matteo Bittanti investigates the scenarios imagined by several “scientific” studies conducted in the last two decades which warned against the horrors and dangers of digital gaming. It presents a "what if" scenario in which techno-pathologies and physical deformities allegedly caused by an excessive use of digital games are presented as “real”. The conspiratorial element, which informs the vast majority of “news” we consume on a daily basis, is one of the key ingredients.
And surely “Game Arthritis” is also a pun. The title itself mocks the ongoing debates on the artistic value of digital gaming, which resulted in endless on- and offline debates, innumerable exhibitions, events, conferences, articles, books, lectures and so on. The fear that Game Art is becoming arthritic – asthmatic, too - is not unfounded. Perhaps the worst has yet to come??
(selected from the projects'press release)

“Game Arthritis” is exhibited as of today at the Venice Biennale, in the context of the exhibition “Neoludica: Art is a Game 2011-1966”. Not to miss!
