Nollywood by Pieter Hugo

During his travels through West Africa, Dutch photographer Pieter Hugo made a series of intriguing portraits documenting the movie industry of Nigeria. These pictures stage local movie stars from Nollywood - the term used to describe the Nigerian movie industry, representing the 2nd biggest movie industry worldwide, in terms of number of annual film productions - in scenes referring to local myths and symbols. How strange the themes and topics might seem to us, these movies are in fact the first African mass media about Africa. More work of Pieter Hugo @ Cokkie Snoei.
