(PERFORMING ARTS) American Theatre Wing Jonathan Larson Grants
The Jonathan Larson Grant recognizes and supports emerging composers, lyricists and book writers**. The grants will be celebrated at a reception featuring performances of the winning artists' work in the spring. Applicants should be working professionally in the field and have demonstrated commitment to a career in musical theatre. Individuals may apply as lyricists, composers, composer/lyricists, or composer/lyricist/bookwriters. Individual book-writer applications are not accepted. Collaborative teams may apply together as composer and lyricist or composer, lyricist, and bookwriter. Collaborators who work together regularly are strongly encouraged to apply as a team. U.S. citizenship is not a requirement, but you must be eligible to work in the U.S. and reside/work there on at least a part-time basis. Submitted work should be predominantly in English. (ALL) Arab Fund for Arts and Culture Grants
The Arab Fund for Arts and Culture Grants aims to stimulate and support artistic creativity and freedom of cultural expression in the Arab World. Open to individuals, NGOs, cultural and educational organizations, governmental bodies, and private companies in the fields of independent filmmaking, performing arts, visual arts, literature, research, capacity building and training, regional and cultural events, regional exchange, and multi-disciplinary projects. (ALL) Guggenheim Fellowships
For advanced professionals in all fields, including the creative arts (in the field of performing arts, artists must perform their own original material to be eligible), to further the development of scholars and artists by assisting them to engage in research in any field of knowledge and creation in any of the arts, under the freest possible conditions. Grants are to individuals only (but are not available to students) and have been averaging $43,200 for U.S./Canadian fellowships and $34,285 for Latin American/Caribbean fellowships - amounts are adjusted to the needs of the fellows, considering their resources and the purpose and scope of their plans. (LIBRETTISTS/LYRICISTS) Kleban Award
Given annually to both a librettist and a lyricist, each of whom receives $100,000, payable in 2 annual installments of $50,000. Applicants must EITHER have had work previously produced on a stage or in a workshop performance OR be or have been a member or associate of a professional musical workshop or theatre group, i.e., ASCAP, BMI Theater Workshop, or the Dramatists Guild Musical Theater Development Program. (NY WRITERS) New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowships
Artists' Fellowships and Strategic Opportunity Stipends (SOS) are available to artists in New York. The fellowships of $7,000 each are given biennially to poets and creative nonfiction writers. Grants alternate yearly with fellowships in fiction. Entrants should submit up to 20 pages of poems by October 6, or up to 20 pages of creative nonfiction by October 8. There is no entry fee. (WRITERS) Kentucky Foundation for Women
Grants ranging from $1,000 to $7,500 are available to women writers in Kentucky whose work "focuses on a feminist, not feminine, consciousness." The Foundation seeks to support writers "who describe the realities of women's lives, who experiment in style and substance, analyze language, or who are working to enlarge the feminist literary and historical heritage." There are two grant programs: Artist Enrichment, supporting the development of individual artists, and Art Meets Activism, recognizing specific projects and activities that involve broader communities and have clear social goals. Deadlines are typically the first Friday in September for Artist Enrichment and the first Friday in March for Art Meets Activism.
